Date Pudding
Recipe from Mary Alice Brewer Flory, my Grandma
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 Tbsp butter
1 1/2 c flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup walnuts chopped
1/2 cup dates chopped
Place the above ingredients in a bowl.
Combine:
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp baking soda
Pour this over ingredients in bowl and mix. Pour in greased 8x8 baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.
Below is the syrup to pour over hot baked cake. Combine over low heat in sauce pan and bring to boil.
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup dates chopped
2/3 cup water
Allow cake to cool and serve with whipped cream if desired.
